The mission of the Church: Our Biblical mandate.
Why did Christ institute the Church? We need to ask this question and then seek to answer it. As we do this, we should anchor our answers in God’s Word. In so doing we will be defining the MISSION of the Church, the Body of Christ in the world.
By perusing other church’s mission statements, it is quickly apparent that many churches put priority on the experience of Sunday worship services. Worship, praise, and messages conveyed in sermons are vital. Also strategic in many mission statements is the impact of the church in its local context. Churches should take a stand against poverty and injustice and respond in whatever means possible to the issues of human need.
But we fall far short of understanding why Christ designated the Church – His Body – to be his presence in the world if we do not see it as the primary agency for reaching lost mankind. In Matthew 16:18, Jesus tells Peter that, in fact, all the powers of hell will be brought to bear against the Church but that they will not prevail. This statement underscores the global significance of the Church by describing the opposition it will face as it undertakes its mission in the world.
Today, as the Church responds to the lostness of nations where the Gospel has never been preached, we act in obedience to the timeless Word of God, who commands us through the prophets to declare His glory to the nations (peoples). We are also acting in response to the words of the resurrected Christ who commanded His disciples to “go make disciples of all nations (peoples) …”(Matthew 28:19).
In short, Christ’s redemptive work on the cross was the supreme sacrifice to bring all mankind to the saving knowledge of His death and resurrection. The missions program at Freedom Church must, and will, faithfully reflect the love of Christ for all mankind. We are GLOBAL in our commitment and – by God’s grace and provision – will begin here at home in our own “Jerusalem” and faithfully and diligently seek to resource the sending of missionaries, God’s agents of redemption, to the farthest corners of our earth.
We utilize a "Pray, Give, Go" strategy for Global Outreach.
